Introducing my new life as a stay-at-home mom

February 1, 2011
As many of you know, we welcomed our firstborn daughter, Kate, just over a year ago.
2010 was a time where our new family learned a bevy of life lessons: how to change a diaper; how to calm a crying spell; how to feed a tiny human being with little to no teeth to speak of. We also suffered through a number of trials, the toughest for me being that tug-of-war between the cry of work and the cry of my child. In the end — and as it should be, I suppose — my family won out, and I’ve decided to leave the work force for the next few years while we grow our family from 2 to 4.
On the future of Tiny Bites Consulting
I’ve loved helping the food and hospitality scene in BC through Tiny Bites Consulting, but in order to put my family first, I’ll have to hang up my consultant hat for the time being. I fully intend on returning to the job once our children are old enough to be embarrassed by my constant presence. When I get cabin fever from my parenting priorities, don’t be surprised to see me publish a technology post or two on the Consulting blog that I will continue to leave online.
On the future of Tiny Bites, the food blog
On this front, I’m not going anywhere. However, the food blog has always been a hobby of mine: it’s not a business, and it’s not a pro blog with daily or weekly postings. I don’t have immediate plans to change any of that, so the frequency of my posts in 2011 and beyond will continue to be as whimsical as it had been in 2010.
Since I’ll have one or more little ones by my side for the next decade, the kind of eateries we will frequent will also reflect the changes in our lifestyle. I’m sure there are many other food lovers publishing their thoughts on the latest and greatest about the town, so I’ll leave that genre of food writing to them. Tiny Bites will likely be more about our adventures in family-friendly dining, at-home gourmet experiments, and coverage of food travel and events that are inclusive of tots in hand.
[And maybe highlights of more grown-up places every now and then, if we can get away for a few date nights each month!]
Thanks for your support!
My gratitude goes out to all of you that have helped us make this transition in the past few months, and for clients past and present that have expressed their support for this move. It saddens me that this chapter has come to a close but it is with much excitement and no mean amount of trepidation that I enter into the realm of full-time mommyhood!
