I didn’t realize just how many different services that the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society runs in our community. Here’s a brief look in their own words:
Programs of the GVFBS
While we meet the crisis of hunger, we are also helping people in other ways.
Fresh Choice Community Kitchens
Fresh Choice Community Kitchens is an educational resource program that promotes and supports cooking and nutritional skill building. Read more >
Downtown Eastside Community Kitchens
Otherwise known as DECK, this program teaches skills needed to prepare inexpensive and healthy meals for residents in one of Canada’s most impoverished neighbourhoods. Read more >
The Kid’s Picks
This program provides nutritious snacks for 600 young children 1-2 times each month and is also a way to inform parents about healthy nutrition for their children. Read more >
The Community Angel Food Runners
This program recovers 750,000 lbs of surplus prepared, perishable food from restaurants and food service sites throughout the Greater Vancouver area annually.
It is taken directly to agencies, primarily in the Downtown Eastside, where it provides 1.25 million meals to members of the community. Read more >
Basics for Babies
Founded and administered by JRfm 93.7, Basics for Babies supports families with infants by providing formula and diapers. Read more >
