Tiny Bites 2009: A year in preview

4 Comments January 1, 2009

Happy happy new year, dear readers!

celebration of light: mexico

Rather than making specific resolutions, I’d like to share my year plan for Tiny Bites with you. Below are the themes that you will see time and time again in 2009:

Value dining

In this shaky economy, my restaurant focus will change, paying closer attention to the spots that appease the stomach without choking the budget. One tip – check out downtown’s newest Vietnamese restaurant, Chau Kitchen & Bar, down at the far end of Robson street. It’s making waves.

A celebration of local and seasonal fare

I’ve always wanted Tiny Bites to be conscientious of the people and places that make Vancouver a green place to live.  As was my wont in 2008, expect to find me frequenting the restaurants that champion the Eat Local movement, sharing recipes in keeping with the seasons, and covering sustainability exhibitions such as farmers markets, EPIC and the BC Spot Prawn Festival.

Neighbourhood expansion

I can’t wait for the new skytrain to be up and running! That means that I will be able to traverse to Richmond, a food community that has been difficult to get to thus far.

Until that happens, I’ll take the existing lines to Commercial Drive and have healthy walking excursions to Chinatown and see what I can dig up for you there.

Other neighbourhoods will be well represented by the food and restaurant bloggers in town, so worry not. Make sure to check out what Raul, Darren, Degan, Ben & Susanne, Dan & Ed, and many others are eating!

High Tea Series

T Room: tea and cookies

Let’s not forget all the afternoon dates that I’d like to make with you as you help me to assess the numerous places we seem to have for high tea.  First one will be at the T Room, so make sure to tell me if you’re up for some refined chatting over tea and scones.

    Hi Karen!

Looking forward to reading your reviews (and making some of my own) this new year.

Also, we get to start with a bang with Dine Out Vancouver, as a recent email details: “From Wednesday, January 14 to Sunday, February 1, sample an impressive assortment of three-course prix fixe menus from 188 participating restaurants for $18, $28 or $38* per person.”

Visit tourismvancouver.com to view the menus, make your dining plans and book online.

(I have no connection to this event, but thought it might be a nice start to your preview. :) )

    Gentle-diners, start your engines…

*Exclusive of alcohol, taxes and gratuities.
