Voting begins for the Best of 604 Awards

5 Comments December 4, 2008

I debated not calling this out on Tiny Bites until the voting period was up, since this site was nominated in 3 categories (fave food site, fave photo site, and fave new site of 2008).  But as I waded through the nominees to cast my votes this morning, I discovered so many local gems that it seemed a shame not to share these terrific Vancouver websites with you.

  • The Daily Seagull:  Vancouver satire in the style of The Onion.
  • Vancouver I Am: High quality video journalism with interesting local stories and an interactive vote-up system that floats users’ top-rated stories to the front page.
  • The Tyee: This online mag attempts to cover stories and perspectives that matter to all of BC, not just its southwestern-most tip.
  • The Conveyor Belt: In the fashion category, this blog had the best mix of local content, editorials, and aesthetic…I have a soft spot for great photography!
  • Lipgloss and Laptops:  I’m not big into makeup, but I do go wild for nail polish and lipstuffs.  Plenty of content about eco-friendly cosmetics that I will have to catch up on.
  • Travel in 10: An enticing concept – close your eyes for 10 minutes as you listen all about a far-away (or not so far-away) land.

Then there are my regular reads, who were deservedly nominated in one or more categories:  Butter on the Endive, Ethnic Eats, Farmstead Wines, Hummingbird604, Invoke Media, Rouxbe, Scout Magazine, and Waxy Photography.

Visit the Best of 604 site by noon on December 11th to determine your personal favourites.  If you’re free on the 11th, come out to the awards reception, whose admission proceeds are going straight to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Thanks for the Waxy Photography shout-out! I’m going to check out the good looking food on your site.

And best of luck in the contest, though I hope you win only two of the three categories. ;-)

I can relate to eating with tiny bites. I ordered a cheeseburger a month ago and only just finished it.

    Thanks for the plug.

Reeni and Annika: Thank you for voting! I hope you checked out the other categories too.

John: My pleasure. I’ve been following your Flickr photostream for years, long before I started this food blog =)

    Mcgarnickle: Teehee…thanks for saying hello!

Got something to say?
