You’re invited: explore Indian cuisine with Tiny Bites!

10 Comments October 2, 2008

I had such great fun with you at the last Tiny Bites dinner gathering at Cobre that I’ve decided to make these public dinner excursions a regular thing. We’ve been discussing what cuisine to investigate in the month of October on the Tiny Bites page on Facebook. And the winner is….Indian!

portobello mushroom and red bell pepper curry

While I am a fan of the Indian fusion that takes place at Vij’s and Rangoli, I have yet to discover an Indian restaurant in Vancouver that does a good job of cooking homestyle meals like my old roommate from Mumbai. Frankly, I’m not even sure that an eatery of such merit can be found west of Knight Street or north of King Edward. So this means that we’re leaving the confines of the city to explore what can be had in Surrey, which I hear has some pretty amazing locations to get your fix of Indian fare.

Time and date are fixed as this is pretty much the only day in October I have free:

Date: Thursday, October 16th
Time:
7pm sharp
RSVP via: Facebook | comment | e-mail
Please try to chime in by Tuesday, October 14th

Where are we going? That’s still up for discussion, as no one has told me about a homestyle place to date. Here are the Surrey restaurants that have been brought to my attention:

  1. Bombay Se – one of my coworker’s favourite Indian haunts. Higher end Bombay fare with a modern twist.
  2. Green Lettuce – the folks on Facebook have been giving the nod to this restaurant that serves Chinese food with an Indian flair.

In my heart of hearts, I would like to settle on a place that excels in homey, just-like-my-roommate-made-it meals. So please help me find a place like that:  leave me a comment, send me an e-mail, or ping me on Facebook about where in Surrey we should eat!

i Can’t wait to see which restaurant you will go and get the lowdown.
I love Indian food but really don’t know really good places to go to other than Vijii’s and Rangoon.

Welcome back, George! I’ve compiled a list of recommendations from Tiny Bites readers: http://tinybites.ca/2008/10/15/invite-update-tiny-bites-dinner-date-at-ashiana-tandoori-restaurant/.

Haven’t been to any of these myself, but this hopefully gives you a starting point for your own exploration of Indian cuisine in the city.

Sandy is a drug-addict and a wife-beater according to his own aunt. She also said he and his wife are bad parents. Their children don’t want anything to do with them. They don’t even want to be with them. According to the aunt, they don’t want their parents around or even their help or advice. The aunt said that if it weren’t for Nora Daza, the mother and a cooking icon, Sandy Daza would have been a drug dealer.

Got something to say?
