Keep an eye out for the Ocean Wise symbol

1 Comment July 26, 2008

This is Blogathon post #24 of 48 in support of the David Suzuki Foundation

While we’re on the topic of sustainable seafood, have you ever noticed this symbol or notice on restaurant menus? This one is Habit’s:

Habit: yes, they're Ocean Wise

If you have, and you’ve been ordering seafood items with this round symbol next to it, you are eating seafood that has passed the sustainability assessments of the Vancouver Aquarium’s seafood watchguard, Ocean Wise. Moreover, restaurants that participate in the Ocean Wise program also commit to the gradual elimination of non-sustainable seafood items on their menus.

A full list of Ocean Wise restaurants can be found online. From what I recall from EPIC 2008, the Vancouver Aquarium is looking to roll out their program nation-wide during the course of this year (and it looks like this has already begun!).
