One week from now, at this exact time, Tiny Bites will go into blogging overdrive in order to raise awareness for the David Suzuki Foundation, a Vancouver-based non-profit whose programs “promote solutions that conserve nature and help achieve sustainability within a generation”.

Why the heck are you going to blog so much for 24 hours straight?!
Here are 3 reasons for inundating you with 1 post every 30 minutes, from 10pm on Friday, July 25th to 10pm on Saturday, July 26th:
- I’m doing my part for Blogathon Vancouver 2008. Rebecca of Miss604.com fame has rallied a number of bloggers from the Lower Mainland and beyond to raise awareness and funds for their charity of choice. She’s summarized the history and the goals of the Blogathon quite well here. Other participants include Tania Morrison (Ottawa), Raul, Shane Gibson, Ayeza Garcia, Isabella Mori, Danny Dang, Mehnaz Thawer, Jenn Lowther/Nadia Nascimento, Barbara Doduk, Chris Richardson, Colleen Vince, and Duane Storey.
- I’m an avid fan of the David Suzuki Foundation. You may have already heard of their flagship campaign: the Nature Challenge. My husband and I took up the challenge last year and it’s time to make another progress report. There are a wealth of other programs that the David Suzuki Foundation runs which are not as highly profiled as the Nature Challenge. Some of these relate to food sustainability, which I hope would be of relevance to readers of Tiny Bites. I’d like to give these programs some face time and hopefully get you interested enough to support the ones that mean something to you.
- I’m really behind in giving you content! Did you know that in the past 4 months, I’ve amassed a photo collection from over 90 restaurants in the Lower Mainland? Less than half of these are posted to the Tiny Bites Flickr account, and a fraction of these have been profiled in a Tiny Bites review. This Blogathon can push me to provide you with the photography and assessments of restaurants you’ve been waiting to read about…but you’ll have to keep me going next weekend with pledges and comments!
I’m intrigued…tell me more about the David Suzuki Foundation.
I’ll give you plenty of background info (plus a couple of personal stories involving Dr. Suzuki) during the Blogathon, so you will have to stay tuned for that!
If your curiosity is unstoppable, here are some quick links:
- All about the David Suzuki Foundation
- All about Dr. David Suzuki (my role model since I was 6!)
- Web-based annual report, including info on donors, revenues, and expenses
I’m intrigued and I’m a blogger…tell me more about Blogathon Vancouver 2008.
It’s not too late to sign yourself and your blog up! Pick the cause you want to support and follow these links to sign up and get yourself organized:

Well then. I hope to see you online during the the posting melee that is Blogathon Vancouver 2008. If you would like to start with the cheerleading before July 25th, by all means, leave me a comment on this post and let me know that you will be keeping me motivated and awake next weekend!

Got something to say?

What a worthy cause to donate to. Awesome to hear you’re joining us for Blogathon!!!
What a great cause Karen and good on you for rising up to the challenge. My friend Steve in Montreal is also doing the Blogathon (second year) for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Autism Clinic (http://www.chirographum.com/weblog/?p=3522#more-3522). Blogging for 24 hours: now that’s dedication!
It’s definitely a challenge – good luck and props for raising awareness regarding the David Suzuki Foundation. Because of you, I checked out their site and sent letters to the Prime Minister – they make it so easy! I’m already engaged in a lot of their causes (without my knowing it beforehand), but the site is definitely a good one-stop source for information! Thanks!
David Suzuki is an incredible man. I’ve read his posts on ENN.com for years. Good luck with the blogathon. I just signed up for the Nature Challenge.

Holy cow, I have trouble getting two posts up a week, let alone one every half hour. I would participate, but will be in Pemberton working at the festival. By the time you get to the 47th post, you will be writing gibberish. Good luck. I’ll check in to see how it’s going.

Christina and Dagny: thank you both for taking action and supporting the David Suzuki Foundation!
Raul: glad I could contribute in some way!
Melissa: kudos to your friend Steve for participating in the Blogathon as well. It is tough to stay alert for 24 hours and then write about your cause through it all.
Owen: how’s the Festival going? It certainly was a challenge to craft content that would be of lasting relevance to Tiny Bites readers. I had planned out a schedule of topics before the blogathon begin; next time I should consider drafting some of that content in advance! Yowza.
