Rouxbe Cooking School is now open. Will you enroll?

I’d been keeping a watchful eye on Vancouver-born Rouxbe.com since Tiny Bites first began. The site is unique in that it offers beautiful video tutorials that not only show you how to cook a dish in a certain way, but explain why certain methods of preparation prevail over others. Mastery of a recipe is less important than mastery of the techniques, which is great…I’m looking to be liberated from these recipe shackles.

Happily, the long awaited Rouxbe Cooking School is now online, waiting for folk like you and I to glean culinary insights from the comfort of our own kitchens. No Gordon Ramsay will be bringing you to tears here.

To access the Cooking School curriculum, you do need to sign up for a premium membership ($99 per year or $199 for a lifetime). 15% of all membership proceeds go towards Rouxbe for Life.

If you are unsure about shelling out cash at this point, you can register for a special extended trial via Tiny Bites, which gives you unlimited access to video pointers (called Drill-downs) plus the ability to sample Rouxbe’s full suite of video recipes for 30 60 days.

You can also try out this free Cooking School lesson on Wheat and Gluten.

After my failed attempts to win a premium membership through their Name That Cooking Sound contest series, the folks at Rouxbe were kind enough to upgrade me on the house. That means full access to the Cooking School for a year (yippee!). As I work through the curriculum, I’ll update this blog with my thoughts on the lessons offered. Perhaps that will give you enough fodder to decide one way or another.

Study hard!

PS: If you share my distaste for restaurants that overcook fish as a matter of course, you may be tempted to point guilty parties to this Drill-down on Rouxbe ;)

Very nice, I don’t know if I’ll have the time or patience to go through the self-directed classes … but I sure am looking forward to seeing how you do with them … those “name that cooking sound” clips were tricky, nice of them to give you an upgrade, coz you’re well on your way to be a well known blogger now :D

I can totally vouch for the awesomeness of Rouxbe. I used to work there and when they shoot their video there was always awesome food. I have to admit that I still crave the corriander chicken sans cilantro!

    Hi Bruce,

I am not affliated with Rouxbe.com (I’m just a fan). But I’ll forward your question to someone that can help.
